This Year’s ASU Undie Run Needs $15,000 By Month’s End or It Won’t Happen

The Undie Run is a charity event where students donate gently used clothes off of their bodies to the needy and participate in a run around campus in their underwear. In order for this year Run to get the green light the University administration and the City of Tempe are requiring an increase in security, staff and fencing. One of three instances in which has lead to the administration and City of Tempe’s decision was the ruckus caused in the MU (video) that lead to property damage last year. With around 20,000+ students participating and like other university only events trespassing incidents non-ASU individuals is prevalent. Due to budget shortfalls by ASU’s Undergraduate Student Government (which has helped support the event financially in previous years) and the withdrawal of a few sponsors, organizers are scrambling to get $15,000 by the end of the month or else the event won’t happen. Not the first run-in that this event had as they were charged $1,880 for trampled plants and damage by the Fulton Center in the inaugural run in 2008.
